THE IMPORTANCE OF AN ANNUAL PREVENTIVE EXAM
Our members’ health is important to us. That is why you will always hear us tell MinuteMembers to use the wide range of preventive care benefits included in every Minuteman Health plan. We also like to remind members that when these services are received from an In-Plan Provider, there is no member cost sharing—that means no copays or out-of-pocket costs.
Among one of the most important preventive care services available to MinuteMembers is an annual preventive visit with an In-Plan Primary Care Provider (PCP). Scheduling an annual preventive visit is an excellent way to keep tabs on your current health status, as well as help detect more serious health problems.
As a part of your annual preventive visit, your In-Plan PCP may:
Review your health history
Conduct simple health tests, like checking blood pressure and weight
Provide the recommended immunizations and health screenings you need, depending on your age, gender, personal health history and current health conditions
Offer recommendations for other preventive services and healthy lifestyle changes
#MinuteMemberTip: Getting your annual preventive visit with your In-Plan PCP pays off in more ways than one. Not only does your health benefit—your wallet does too. Learn about the MinuteMember Wellness Rewards Program.
KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PREVENTIVE AND DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
While annual preventive visits do NOT include member cost-sharing, your In-Plan Provider may recommend additional diagnostic services or screenings (e.g., tests or treatments needed to treat a previously diagnosed condition) during the visit. In these cases you will be charged only for the services that are considered diagnostic and NOT preventive. For example, if an electrocardiogram (EKG) is performed during your annual preventive visit you will just be charged for the cost of the EKG.
How do you know if you will be charged for a diagnostic service performed at your annual preventive visit? An annual preventive visit does NOT include any diagnostic services or treatments such as:
Medical treatments for specific health conditions
Medical treatments for ongoing care
Labs or other tests necessary to manage or treat a previously diagnosed medical issue or health condition
For example, a diabetes screening lab test is covered as a preventive service if you haven’t been diagnosed with diabetes, but is considered diagnostic if you have already been diagnosed with diabetes.
